SEE FINISH BY TREASURE EZURUIKE EPISODE 27
NICOLE’S POV
Your wife is supposed to submit to you and you’re supposed to love her according to the Commandments of God.
You’re the head of the family agreed but God does not support a leader fornicating or committing adultery.
You cannot do any of them and expect that you would not apologize or make up for it.
I told him to apologize to me or I will not go back with him and after going back with him now I will no longer do the chores I did before.
To start with I told him I won’t be doing his laundry. He needed to take his clothes to the dry cleaner, let them wash, and iron them.
As far as food goes, he should hire a chef that will do the cooking. I think I had cooked enough for a lifetime.
I will only want you to cook at certain times but no longer around the clock anymore.
Your father eats fresh food. He doesn’t eat refrigerated food.
I put up with that for 15 years. Along with my job was just too much.
What is out there in the news is that separation and divorce do a huge disservice to women. That is a lie. Let me tell you now. Even without my children taking care of me I could still take care of myself. I could survive without your father because all he provided was money. I earned money but he didn’t do chores. He expected the next woman he married to be like me but that’s not always the case.
Since he wants fresh food he should get himself a chef whose job will be to make him fresh food.
I told him I also no longer would be willing to attend events without my consent because your father was fond of that.
I couldn’t go to attend any event on my own.
I must go with him because he loved showing me off.
I didn’t want that anymore because I was no longer a child.
The long and short of this story was that he couldn’t accept any of my terms.
He said it’ll be over his dead body for him to apologize to me because of the women he brought home.
He was a man in his own house and I wasn’t there and he needed to fill the void.
I asked him if I felt it would be right to fill the void he created? He told me I have no right to feel a void.
He told me he would not take his clothes to a dry cleaner as long as I was there.
I asked him how he had been doing his laundry while I was not around.
He said it was the dry cleaner and that was because I had been away.
I asked all those women you brought home if no one did your laundry?
He ignored me and told me I cannot be alive and another woman would do his laundry.
He paid a restaurant to supply fresh food every day, so you have the money to pay the restaurant but you never for once acknowledged my effort.
He ignored me and said he married me so why should he acknowledge my efforts?.
He didn’t accept my terms. I didn’t go back with him and that was why you grew up away from your father.
I saw him a few days ago. He was looking worn out and stressed.
You know he remarried after I said I wouldn’t go back because I didn’t want to be a slave.
I expected him to look fresh and well taken care of but I was shocked to see him looking so tattered and unkempt.
I asked him what the matter was and he told me how his wife had left him because she said she could no longer keep up with his demands, they were just too much.
For that reason has not been able to do his laundry and cook his meals and he has not been able to find anyone that will fill the void.
I felt for him I have to admit but unfortunately, he kept himself in that condition.
He had unrealistic expectations. He was not willing to meet the expectations of someone else.
You know why I’m telling you this story. You are towing the same line with your father and you are likely to end up like him and trust me it’s not nice.
I look better than your father, you can see it for yourself.
It’s not like you give me money. I was already surviving on my own without him.
I was spending money and I was doing chores in his case he was just bringing money and not all of it.
I was bringing some part of the money but he did nothing.
He only had expectations. He was expecting that I will meet and you are doing the same thing.
Imagine your question. Do I expect you to cook, clean, and wash? Are you not a human being?
Why can’t you do all those? Who told you that because you are born male you can’t do any of that?
You expect your wife to contribute financially to the smooth running of the family but you don’t expect yourself to help her out, how fair is that?
Do you think if you send your wife away she won’t survive?
She may suffer but she will survive. But you would find it more difficult, you know why?
You had everything done for you and before you find someone else who is willing to do all those things for you again for free it would be a long time.
Most people won’t keep up with you, except fake people after your money. They would pretend to care just to gain access.
Finally, you’d get frustrated. See how your father sent me away and married a new wife.
Yet she left on her own because she couldn’t keep up obviously.
He told her all these negative stories about me which convinced her to marry him.
She reached out to me and insulted me. She told me how I was a foolish woman to let go of my home because I was rubbing shoulders with my husband.
Yet she left on her own. Who is foolish now? She has left the same home because she found out the man is the problem.
Some of you men are difficult to live with but we still stay yet you don’t regard us.
Imagine you agreeing to switch roles with your wife and not do a single thing.
How do you think that makes you look.
KIRA’S POV
Kenny woke up and was so cold. My life is meaningless, he said.
Your life is not meaningless, don’t say that. Life is so unfair to me, he said.
Dad reached out to Charles and told him someone was threatening to harm me and my mother-in-law if Kenny revealed him as his abuser.
He wanted to harm who. Excuse me! Charles exclaimed. How did you find out? Your sister found out not me when the person called him.
She suspected because of how Kenny’s countenance fell. She eavesdropped and found out from Kenny’s responses.
We got the number and some audio call recordings. Send them to me, Charles said. Please, you need to be very careful, especially Kira.
I’ll think about it, Dad said. I’m serious Dad, Charles said. I’m serious too, Dad said. I’ll be in touch.
Kenny was becoming more on the edge and erratic. I was afraid to be around him alone but I knew he needed me.
I started to feel sick but didn’t know what was wrong.
Kenny noticed and asked are you okay one day he stopped by. I feel sick I said.
Have you seen a doctor? No, I’ve not. Why haven’t you seen one?
He tried to convince me to see one but I told him I didn’t want to see one.
A few days later Charles called Dad and said I found something. I found him.
Really? How? Dad asked. I have sources that I can’t name.
I asked around to find out if there were other victims but no one wanted to talk.
I called that number and someone answered. Who is this, the person asked.
I’m one of your victims, which one, he asked. Honestly, I was shocked. Which one?
I had some doubts about this chase. I was afraid that it was an isolated incident.
But when he asked which one, he made me realize there are many.
He has also been calling other victims because he wasn’t surprised how I got his number.
I hung up after extracting a recording. He couldn’t call back because I called with a private number.
I contacted one of my sources to ask him in confidence if he knew anything.
He refused to talk so I sent him money and he sang like a bird.
He told me his name and I’m shocked. He is one of the Deputy Controllers of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
You are joking, right? Dad asked. No, I’m not Dad.
My source told me that many inmates were victims.
He asked me why I was interested. I told him it was personal and it got his attention.
I told him I wanted to put it out in the press to draw him out. He warned me.
I told him I wanted it anonymous as he does. He is an independent blogger who operates underground.
He is famous but no one knows he is behind most of the stories that break the internet.
He told me to get ready to fan the fire because so many people would be ready to put it out.
I just called to let you all know that the story is about to go live.
I hope Kenny is ready. The news story is going to say ” it’s alleged that one of the Deputy Controllers of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Daniel Marcus has been secretly sexually abusing inmates under his care.
He then goes around blackmailing them when they’ve served their time so they don’t expose him. More details to follow as this shocking story unfolds.
Daniel Marcus? Dad exclaimed. A man that’s an Elder in his church? A married man with a beautiful wife and children?
Dad nothing is what it seems. When the story breaks it’ll be up to the victims to speak up and the accused to defend himself.
Charles, I don’t want you involved in this, it’s too dangerous.
Relax Dad, you reached out to me so I’m not going back. This could be my breakthrough to recognition.
You could get killed. I won’t get killed, Dad. It’s my story.
Whenever it’s time, I’ll claim it because I know all the details, and Kenny who has a big part to play in it is my brother-in-law.
I hope he’s listening because things are about to get heated. I hope he snaps out of the blackmail.
It’s very sad but I hope he makes it through and tells his story.
Please be careful Dad said. I would keep that in mind, Dad. I’ll be in touch.
The following evening I was in the bedroom with Kenny.
We were talking when regular programming was interrupted by breaking news of sexual abuse against a Deputy Controllers of the Nigerian Correctional Service, who was not named.
CHIKANMA’S POV
He dropped the placard and the ring and danced with me.
He was panicking and trembling so I just stopped and said Yes.
He didn’t hear me because he didn’t react. He asked why are you doing this to me?
I asked him for his placard and wrote yes behind it because he couldn’t hear anymore but he could read.
I turned it around revealing Yes. He jubilated like he just won the UEFA champions league final.
He ran towards me and hugged me and said thank you.
He looked into my eyes and said I love you. I responded I love you too.
Then my children ran towards me, I noticed my son was the DJ.
My mum was all smiling with my daughter. Gerald’s mum said you wanted my son to die before you said Yes. Sorry, ma that was not my intention.
I’m kidding. Nne congratulations. You make my son very happy and you make me happy too.
I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
My two children ran up to Gerald hugged him and said Dad welcome the family.
It took Gerald by surprise, he looked at me and I smiled right back.
I turned around with my children and saw Nkem standing in a section of the room smiling at us all.
I thought I was the only one seeing him but when my children said Dad, he smiled at them.
My mum saw him too. He walked up to me and said congratulations. Take care of our children then he disappeared.
The children screamed Dad, come back. Gerald hugged them saying it’s okay. I’ve got you.
Gerald got the ring before everyone and slipped it into my finger as everyone screamed she said Yes.
We headed home. He dropped me off and headed home and called me by video and said thank you.
I said no I should be thanking you. He said respect yourself.
Thank you for considering me worthy. You are joking right, I said. No, I’m not, I mean it.
Well, I found a woman stronger than anyone I know.
She shares my dreams. I hoped that someday I’ll share her home.
I found a love to carry more than just my secrets To carry love, to carry children of our own.
I don’t deserve you, you are just perfect for me. You are perfect for me too, I responded.
Well, I found a beautiful and sweet woman. I never knew you were the someone waiting for me.
You were the one for me too, I said. After Nkem died I never believed I’d find love again.
Thank you for protecting me and my children. Providing security for my children after my incident with Ijeoma.
They are our children now Gerald responded. Please don’t refer to them as your children again because they are our children.
That is what they’ve always been since the first day I saw them in my sitting room for the first time now it’s official.
I still felt guilty because of Nkem. Here I was living my life while he was separated from us by death.
I wanted to sob but Gerald didn’t deserve it.
My marriage to Gerald was so loud and trended.
Widowed mother of two marrying one of the most wanted bachelors in the city, not just any bachelor but one of the most wanted and wealthy.
He was in the top 10 under 30 and wealthy men.
My children added color to the event. Blogs wrote that I trapped him with kayamata but I didn’t care.
We had never been intimate, I never slipped anything into the meals I made.
My in-laws threatened me after marriage to return their son’s children to them.
Since I had decided to remarry, their son’s children couldn’t be raised by another man, they said.
I didn’t respond to their threats. Gerald asked me to leave them to him.
He read my mind because I wasn’t interested in anything they had to say.
Ijeoma said horrible things on social media about how Gerald was her’s until I became his chef and trapped him with my baggage.
He threw her out and took her car and gave it to me. I didn’t have a car or even a house.
She was free to talk because the winner was announced in church.
I didn’t feel a thing for Gerald until I saw my husband in that dream telling me to move on and disappeared.
I didn’t see Nkem again, after officially mourning I could see how much Gerald cared for me.
