You know while we are at it. We need to tell ourselves the truth. This issue of rape is not a matter of indecent dressing.
Please no one should come to my post or even inbox to argue with me about indecent dressing. Please make your post and make your points.
I came across news headlines on a national daily and the first four are about defiling little girls and rape.
I also came across a man who posted on Facebook that he can’t wait to have a daughter so that he can have sex with her while his wife is not around. Now, these things are normal right.
We wonder why some women won’t even trust their husbands with their female children, especially the ones that don’t see anything wrong with these posts.
They call them a joke but they are not. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. You can’t say something you haven’t imagined.
I listened to a phone call on a program on one of the radio stations in Lagos and a male caller said that women are raped because of how they talk to men when they ask them out.
The host asked him if men are raped for talking harshly to men and of course, he stuttered.
Just like domestic violence. A lot of men will continue to find ways to justify rape. So a woman says I don’t want your advances you either beat her or rape her. Wonderful.
We can go on and on. I know for a fact that indecent dressing should not be encouraged but it’s not the reason for all the sexual harassment and rape we keep hearing about.
The reason is that women are the gender that can easily be attacked and a lot of men were not raised to regard women and also a lot of men have no self-control.
A lot of men have evil thoughts that’s why you will defile a baby boy or girl and still come to social media to argue that the cause of rape is indecent dressing.
Yet a woman will be raped and killed in her home while cooking, I begin to wonder if the indecent dressing is also to blame here.
As long as these rapists and their supporters continue to walk free nothing would change.
A lot of men will continue to come up with flimsy excuses to support rape till one of their own is affected then the narrative will change.
In the quest for change, listen without ego or being defensive.
Learn and educate yourself about rape. Speak out if you are affected, don’t be silent.
Change begins with you. Stop protecting pedophiles and rapists and continue living with trauma and hurt, while they walk freely and inflict on the next unsuspecting victim.
Even if they won’t be prosecuted. They should be named.
